WTVO: Illinois Gov. candidate Darren Bailey speaks out against mass surveillance

Darren Bailey, a Republican candidate for Illinois governor, has publicly voiced his opposition to a tracking tool used by law enforcement. He stated his concerns regarding mass surveillance systems, emphasizing that the government should not monitor law-abiding citizens without suspicion or a warrant.

The tracking tool, operated by a company Flock, utilizes license plate reader cameras across many communities, including Rockford. Some cities have canceled their contracts with Flock Safety due to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) accessing the data for immigration enforcement.

While Bailey is “pro” law enforcement, he opposes any mass surveillance system. Bailey said, ” In a free country, government shouldn’t be tracking the daily movement of law-abiding citizens without suspicion or a warrant.”
