TPC Joins Amicus Brief in Bost v. Illinois State Board of Elections (SCOTUS)
In Bost v. Illinois Board of Elections, The Presidential Coalition joined forces with other organizations urging the U.S. Supreme Court to reverse the decision of the 7th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals, which held that a congressman seeking re-election lacks standing to challenge a state law that extends the deadline for receiving mail-in ballots for two weeks beyond election day. The appellate court reasoned that the congressman, as a candidate, lacked standing because he was on equal footing with all other candidates for the office and that any injury he might suffer on account of ballots received after election day was too speculative to warrant judicial review. In late June, the Supreme Court agreed to hear the merits of the case. In our amicus brief on the merits, we urge the Supreme Court to “act expeditiously to reaffirm the standing of candidates in order to protect the integrity of federal elections.”
