WASHINGTON TIMES: DAVID BOSSIE: Tuberville for Alabama governor
The race is on to succeed term-limited Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey, and residents of the Yellowhammer State recently received welcome news: the announcement that their senior U.S. senator, Tommy Tuberville, is now officially a candidate for governor in 2026.
Mr. Tuberville was an incredibly successful head football coach at Auburn University for 10 seasons, from 1999 to 2008. During that time, he cemented his reputation as a leader, a fighter, a builder and a winner. In the mold of President Trump, Mr. Tuberville is not a career politician. He thinks like the CEO of a business, employs common sense and wants to solve problems for his constituents as quickly and efficiently as possible. In many ways, a coach shares the same no-nonsense qualities as a successful CEO, and that’s one of the reasons Mr. Tuberville will do an outstanding job as Alabama’s next CEO in Montgomery.
When Mr. Tuberville got to the Senate in 2021, he quickly learned that career politicians and bureaucrats don’t like gutsy, reform-minded outsiders who have no problem with “going it alone” on tough issues if it’s the right thing to do. When it came to federal funding of abortion and President Biden’s radical, woke agenda gaining traction at the Pentagon, Mr. Tuberville said no. He stated unequivocally, “I cannot simply sit idly by while the Biden administration injects politics in our military from the White House and spends taxpayers’ dollars on abortion.” Millions of conservatives across the country, including myself, praised Mr. Tuberville’s courageous fight for the unborn and our military.
As one of Mr. Trump’s top allies and advocates in the Senate, Mr. Tuberville fights for the “America First” agenda from top to bottom because it helps hardworking Alabamians secure a better future for their families, period. Mr. Tuberville supports strong border security, lower taxes, cutting wasteful spending to shrink inflation, bringing manufacturing jobs back from overseas, law and order, public safety, and smart education reforms that empower parents. Innovative policies such as ending taxes on overtime, tips and Social Security, and crushing dangerous diversity, equity and inclusion policies, such as keeping men out of women’s sports, before they take hold are just matters of common sense, as far as Mr. Tuberville is concerned. Simply stated, Coach Tuberville wants to be a governor who will always put Alabama first, just like Mr. Trump does for America.
During his tenure on the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, Mr. Tuberville co-founded the Make America Healthy Again Caucus and is chairman of the education and American family subcommittee. He was also a full-throated supporter of Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s nomination for health and human services secretary and Mr. Kennedy’s agenda on health care transparency, nutrition and talking honestly to the American people about our chronic disease epidemic. Mr. Tuberville was spot on when he wrote, “One of the most important things RFK has done is shine a light on the fact that we have a public health crisis in this country.”
Mr. Tuberville is fighting to bring Space Command headquarters to Huntsville. He is working with FBI Director Kash Patel to redeploy hundreds of FBI employees to live and work in Alabama.
As Alabama’s next governor, Mr. Tuberville will continue to help Mr. Trump deconstruct the administrative state in Washington from the governor’s mansion in Montgomery. This means wrestling power away from faceless Washington bureaucrats and returning it to the states and the people, as our Founding Fathers intended. Mr. Tuberville believes that prioritizing American citizens and deporting illegal aliens will redirect critical resources in the areas of health care, education, agriculture and workforce development to the hardworking taxpayers who paid for them in the first place.
Furthermore, Mr. Tuberville wants to entice graduates of Alabama’s colleges, universities and trade schools to launch their careers and raise their families in Alabama. He will use his star power, political acumen, and leadership and recruitment skills to supercharge Alabama’s economy. He will unleash pro-growth policies, secure key investments and projects for the state to promote job creation, and focus like a laser beam on making it the best place to start a business.
Perhaps most important, as governor, Mr. Tuberville will always protect our sacred conservative values of God, life and liberty. Those are the principles that anchor him and guide him, and that’s why I encourage all Alabamians to get behind his candidacy and vote for him. He will always put Alabama first and work hand in glove with Mr. Trump to save America.
